OOTD: Vintage Tommy Hilfiger Skort

Fun fact: I spend a lot of time in thrift stores!

Because of the amount of time I spend thrifting through others discarded goods, every now and then I come across a piece that is completely worth blogging about. When I bought this piece initially, I was under the assumption that it was a skirt but when I go home I discovered it was in fact coulottes, aka a pair of shorts that are designed to look like a skirt.

Tommy Hilfiger clothing has had a huge resurancge in the past year, now it’s sold at stores like Urban Outfitters. If you’ve followed me since the summer you’ll know I’m a pretty big Tommy fan having visited his display during NYFW16.

The denim and flannel hybrid piece was paired with an old pair of mid calf riding boots with knee high socks peeking out, and a sheer high low black button down. Under the sheer shirt I wore a red and black plaid bralette to complement the flannel in the skirt. My jewelry can all be found in the Run and Follow webstore!

Being that it’s winter, I also had a denim jacket to cover this ensemble!

How do you like how I styled this vintage piece?

Dramatic Bell Bottoms and a Long Coat OOTD

If you read my last post, you’ll know how I’m into crushing the velvet trend this fall season. To incorporate crushed velvet I styled this whole look around my super flared, high waisted velvet bell bottoms. Believe it or not, I purchased these pants over a year ago at LF’s Soho location during one of their huge end of the season sales. They fit and feel like a comfortable pair of boot cut yoga pants yet they look so dramatic.

To elevate me and prevent the bell bottoms from dragging on the ground I went with my Free Bird cut out ankle boots with a velvety design on them.

If you couldn’t tell, this outfit was all about mixing statement pieces so my shirt is an embellished white waffle texture. I love the dark maroon and black designs on the forearms and neckline.

Coordinating with the dark floral theme of my shoes I topped my look off with the most beautiful jacket in the world. It’s a Johnny Was mandarin collar three quarter length car coat from 2011. This specific coat was a showroom piece gifted to me from a family friend.

It tapers in at the waist and features super detailed embroidered flowers in a variety of muted colors. Embroidery (specifically embroidered roses: here and here and basically everywhere) has been so popular since the end of summer that it’s not even noticeable how this cost is from a few season ago. All trends circulate again and again people.

The gorgeous shots are brought to you by my good friend Sam. She’s an aspiring fashionista and photographer, check out her blog here.

Do you love this dramatic ensemble as much as I do?

Crushing the Velvet Trend

Summer is full of lightweight fabrics such as silks and linens, and while silky jumpsuits and other pieces are still rampant through all seasons, this fall has been dominated by a revival of crushed velvet. Perhaps the beginning of this trend parallels with the sexy velvet chokers that every girl seems to be slipping on since the beginning of summer, or because the materiel is thick enough to keep warm while still adding texture to any ensemble; but whatever the reason its being seen everywhere. From shoes, to dresses to fall heres my velvet favorites (and where to purchase a lot of them).

  1. ACCESSORIES: for the on trend girl looking to incorporate this statement fabric in a low key way, perhaps you’re not a fan of velvet but still want to try it out. From jewelry to hair scrunchies start building your velvet collection. Plus by incorporating it in a small way theres so many opportunities to try statement colors!_13324109 Find this choker and numerous others: Topshop (through Nordstroms)40135881_072_b37867181_066_d Statement golden yellow and perfect layered with a fur coat how about a skinny scarf or any color scrunchie? From Urban Outfitters
  2. SHOES: Perhaps this is just me, but I love when new shoe trends come out. From Creepers to heels to beautiful ankle booties, velvet is on the feet of every economic level fashion enthusiast this season. I can tell this shoe trend will definitely extend      into the winter.                                                           elva1_silver_vel_1_  Shop these beauties and dozens of others (velvet and other high fashion trendy shoes) at one of my favorite shoe stores Public Desire.           74991-0-zoom Besides these to die for midnight blue thigh highs, the store Nasty Gal is a popular place for fans of somewhat edgy but trendy takes on popular fads such as velvet.
  3. SHIRTS, BODY SUITS, PANTS, AND MORE: Maybe you can tell by now, but basically velvet is taking over. Any article of clothing you can think of is being expertly translated into this trend with various colors.         rsavv3339_cabernet Despite not being a big fan of the ethics of American Apparel, I’ll always give credit where credit is due and from bombers, to dresses, to body suits, they have been on the trend since 2012. 00196563-04 Looking to crush the velvet trend cheaply and quickly? For practically any trend, Forever 21 never fails.
40565186_065_h40542169_040_gDespite already having them on this list once, Urban Outfitters velvet collections are the most varied and on trend I have seen for the middle end consumer this season from body suits to my personal favorite, velvet pants.

Get excited to see my OOTD later tonight incorporating gorgeous red crushed velvet bell bottoms from LF’s summer sale to years ago.

OOTD Textured Patterns

The frigid weather on the cold mornings of fall make it nearly impossible to get out of bed let alone get dressed every morning so having super comfortable clothing is a must have. I hate how many people fall into the pattern of wearing leggings and oversized sweatshirts because there’s so many other comfortable and fashionable options out there.

Today I slipped into some jogger hybrid pants with a high waistline and a straight legged fit. The waistband has a tie but also has elastic in the back so they truly feel like sweatpants (but don’t look like ratty sweats!) They have an almost slack like feel to them while still being a comfortable cotton mix. Most notably these pants have a black and white plaid pattern that just makes them look sleek. The plaid pattern is a modern take on the timeless “flannel for fall” look!

An easy way to mix patterns is to stay with a similar color scheme, so my speckled sweater is also black and white. It has a cropped fit with wide comfortable sleeves and a crew neckline. The cropped fit and looser knit allowed me to be comfortable as temps tires warmed up later in the day.

To complete the look I threw my hair in a messy bun to be comfy and slipped on my beloved Prada loafers.

Check out the newly update RAF webstore to shops hand beaded wire chokers like this!

Coffee Clothes

“This outfits a lot like how I take my coffee, black with a lot of cream”

Today I went warm and practical wearing super tight fitting H&M black jeans with a high waist line, knee slits, and frayed hems on the bottom. Frayed denim has been taking over the fast fashion empire this past year from stores like Forever 21, H&M, to more pricey stores like Free People and Anthropologie.

After picking out a black base, I went for creamy accent colors in the form of my ribbed turtle neck from American Apparel and beige patent leather loafers.

I love these loafers because although simple, they have little tassels and a rounded point fit. If you want to read more about my love of loafers check out this post.

To finish the look off I wore a blazer styled jacket with layered colors of green and khaki.

Long Dress, Tall Boots

Today’s outfit of the day is perfectly suited for the early Fall weather notorious to October. It features a beautifully patterned maxi style dress with creamy undertones, muted reds, blues, and some mustard yellows. Besides the stunning pattern, the dramatic leg slit and crossed neckline make this dress stand out. I took advantage of the leg slit by zipping up some suede thigh high boots.

To coordinate with the black boots I layered a Criss cross “cage” styled bra. The bra adds an eye catching dimension to the ensemble. I kept my purse small with a small saddle bag from Nasty Gal. I don’t normally wore make up but today I put some Bobby Brown Lipstick on to coordinate with the color pallet of my outfit.

How was everyone’s Saturday? Mine was super productive traveling all over the city for various errands.

Fall Florals OOTD

Wearing: Culottes (similar) | Ankle Boots | Crop Top (similar) | Jacket

While florals for spring are less then ground breaking, florals for fall are a bold yes in my book. By picking the warm red as a background color the muted black, white, and grey tones in my pants definitely lend themselves to the fall. I paired the culottes with an effortless black crop top and two choker styled necklaces.

Right now in New York, the weather is frigid until midday so I layered my muti green army styled patch work jackets and my favorite little black ankle boots complete with cut outs and velvety swirl pattern.

unnamed-31.jpgHowever, by 1 pm the weather turns super warm which makes these light weight and loose culotte styled pants ideal when paired with the crop top. It take of the jacket, tie it around my waist, and viola I am weather appropriate. Pick an outfit that is adaptable and leaves you with multiple options in the seasonn of unpredictable weather. Because the colors are muted and dark, using black as my base color allows me to mix multiple patterns and styles.

Campus Daze

In the whirlwind of visiting numerous colleges and finalizing decisions that will basically determine my future, my mom and I spent some extra time exploring the towns that form around colleges. I love the environment of local coffee shops and how big brand stores like LF, Urban Outfitters, and Anthropologies get speckled in with various bars and local boutiques. The last college I visited, right outside of Boston, was a 10 minute drive from Harvard Square. Despite rainy conditions, my mom and I suited up and explored the college culture.

unnamed-25.jpgunnamed-28.jpg

I wore super shredded Carmar jeans; these are made especially unique by the five completely exposed buttons. Ripped jeans are perfect for in between weather because they offer some warmth, and in this case protection from the rain, while also allowing a slight breeze from the sticky heat.

unnamed-26.jpg

On top I slipped into a super comfy mint green shirt featuring an antique bicycle logo, and layered a cozy cardigan over it. This cardigan gave me such an old school, school girl vibe with its white piping and longer length. Finally to hold my necessities I used a powder blue purse. Keeping is casual and cool I slipped on my personalized white Converse sneaks.

My hair was not feeling the weather, and traveling has its downsides (yes I am thinking about my mismatched socks in these photos) so I just tied my hair in a top knot styled half up do. Of course the perfect accessory was a cup of piping hot White Chocolate Mocha from Starbucks and an open mind.

OOTD For NYFW Experience

Later today I have a blog post written all about my tentative NYFW experience involving TommyxGigi + More, but before I dive into that part I thought I’d show you beautiful people what I wore into the city.

unnamed-24.jpg

unnamed-6.jpgunnamed-3.jpg

unnamed-6.jpg

Although I would have loved to rock thigh high suede boots or a pants suit like many of the fashion conscious have been throughout fashion week; my life just didn’t allow for it. I maneuvered around the city on solely foot for Saturday.

unnamed-8.jpg

Instead of suede thigh high boots I opted to wear brown suede gladiator sandals that went half way up my calves, a perfect weather friendly compromise in my opinion. The heat due to extreme sunshine was unbearable so I kept my outfit simple but elegant with a beautiful Alice and Olivia dress featuring an extreme plunging neckline. My favorite part of this skirt is how it has an almost cloud like appearance from the various asymmetrical layers of lace and lace flowers.

unnamed.jpgunnamed-2.jpg

To accessorize, I wore my hair in a high fashion styled low pony tail with teased pieces framing my face, oversized sunglasses which could make anyone look famous by covering a majority of their face, and a simple soft leather necklace bought for me from out West.

unnamed-7.jpgunnamed-9.jpg

I carried all my goodies of the day (a water bottle, portable charger, wallet, planner) in a super cool “boat” bad from Nine West, geared towards fall trends with the dark suede finish and decorative army green loop stitching.

Hope you enjoyed and lots of love,

Anna B

Comfortable and Collected OOTD

Looking put together while still being both weather appropriate and comfortable is a big plus in the world of business casual. For today I wore a boxy pinstriped dress. The square neckline and dark colors keeps the look professional.

On my feet I wore my beige patent leather loafers from Mango featuring a not quite pointed toe and trend conscious tassels.

To add some flare and personal details I drew the beige color of my shoes into my lace cream toned kimono. The pinstripes of the dress play with the fringe in the bottom of the kimono.

Wearing some fishnet socks perfectly contrasted the preppy look in the shoes. In a few weeks I’ll style these socks and other fishnet accessories. My socks are from American Apparel if you’re interested in purchasing some for yourself!
