Bandana Fashion: America Edition

What is the most American accessory we could find to show you on America’s birthday? The bandana!!! The paisley printed square of fabric is rich in American history originated first around the necks of cowboys from the wild wild west. Even modern day Woody, a cowboy action figure from Disney’s Toy Story wears a red bandana around his neck. Next, Rosie the Riveter, a figure of feminism and women’s strength for the war movement, wore a polka dot bandana on her head to finish her practical up do. Black bandanas in the 80s and 90s as well as all colors in the early 2000’s hip hop movements were worn as do-rags. Now, modern day, bandanas are being styled by bloggers and fashionistas alike! Various prints, patterns, and colors are being seen everywhere but to honor the bandana’s rich relationship with American history we styled a classic red paisley bandana from a local Dollar Store. The light wash shorts are Levi and the white high necked shirt (and black bralette) are Free People.

  1. Neckwear: Closely aligning with the trend of thick chokers, tying a bandana around your neck has become a very prominent trend. You can tuck the ties into it and turn the tie part to the back like we did in our example. Otherwise you you wear the tie part in the front. Screen Shot 2016-07-04 at 12.28.14 PM.png
  2. Accessory: Adorn your bags and belt loops with pops of color to complete a look and add another dimension. If you’re as cool as me, you can even pair your look to a matching Mini Cooper.Screen Shot 2016-07-04 at 12.27.57 PM.png
  3. Headband: Very reminiscent of Rosie the Riveter, and perfect for you BBQ fanatics and poolside babes, fold a bandana up into a strip and tie on as a headband. You can wear the tie on top or underneath. If your hair is a greasy bird nest mess you could always style a bandana as a do-rag too!Screen Shot 2016-07-04 at 12.28.29 PM.png
